Cox Wins in New Orleans

Brandon Carr (Benik) appeared to be the major threat again in the Micro Swift division as the Saturday winner came through with the Prefinal victory. Elliot Cox (Vemme) had other plans. The lead pack was four with Frankie Iadevaia (Nitro Kart) getting away early but reeled back in by Carr, Cox and top qualifier Alex Powell (Tony Kart). Carr led the majority of the Final until two laps remaining when Cox took over the point. He held a defensive line into turn one, allowing Carr to slip past on the exit. The draft help Cox get back alongside Carr at the end of the straight, setting up for a pass at turn three. Cox came out of the corner strong, establishing a gap ahead of Carr as Iadevaia slipped past for second. Unchallenged to the checkered flag, Cox took home the victory. Iadevaia gave Nitro Kart its first SKUSA Pro Tour podium with Powell slipping past for third. A one position penalty for contact dropped Powell to fourth, moving Carr back to third. The fight for fifth went down to the wire with Caleb Gafrarar (Parolin) earning the position.

Dylan Julien and Elliot Cox each took a win in the Williams Racing Engines Yamaha Rookie category. Julien broke up the season-long win streak for Cox, earning the top step in Saturday’s main event. Cox was the top qualifier and Prefinal winner. He led the first two laps of the main event until Julien took over the position on lap three, never looking back for his first victory of the season. Charlie Kremer was second with Cox, after slipping outside the top-five early, fought back to third ahead of Kasey Williams and Pierce Sonderup. Cox scored his seventh victory on the season Sunday with a sweep of the round, capped off by a seven-second advantage in the main event. Kremer was able to secure the second spot in a great finish, holding off Julien, Sonderup and Christian Miles.

Elliot Cox kept his win streak alive in the Williams Racing Engines Yamaha Rookie category, recording wins five and six on the year. Cox swept Saturday’s round of racing from qualifying to the final checkered flag, edging out Christian Miles with Trevor Johnson joining them on the podium. Miles looked to have the streak ended after coming through as the top qualifier and Prefinal winner Sunday. He led the first half of the Final until he was shuffled to the tail of the field at the midway point, allowing Cox to cruise to the victory. Kasey Williams ran second with Ava Dutton on the podium in third.
