If you’ve been around #sprint #karting nationals in the past few years, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Indiana shoe Elliot Cox. But did you know that this young driver not only lives with dyslexia, he is using his racing as a medium to raise awareness and funds to help support people with dyslexia all over the country?
Dyslexia is a language based learning disability that affects word recognition, spelling, and decoding. While dyslexia makes some things difficult for people like Elliot, he feels it’s an advantage on the track. “Naturally thinking in pictures makes it easier for me to learn a new circuit.” said the young driver.
Elliot started an organization called #drivingfordyslexia in remembrance of his hero Justin Wilson. (an @indycar driver who also lived with dyslexia) Elliot is determined to carry on Justin’s mission of helping kids with dyslexia see that it doesn’t have to stop them from achieving their dreams.
Elliot and his mission are an inspiration to all of us at #nka, and we hope it inspires others to share their stories of how #kartracing helps them overcome things in life.
